Paving in the Sandia foothills

Placitas spreads along NM-165 east of Bernalillo, on the north end of the Sandia Mountains, at roughly 5,500 to 6,500 feet. Homes sit on large lots among piñon and juniper, often on ridges or hillsides with long driveways. Many neighborhoods are reached by private roads and shared easements rather than county-maintained streets.

That combination — slopes, arroyos, long private roads and monsoon storms — is why Placitas paving is mostly about water. A driveway or road that controls its runoff can last decades; one that doesn't can lose its edge in a single summer.

What Placitas owners call us for

Washed-out gravel drives

The most common call: a gravel driveway that ruts every monsoon and needs regrading every year. We fix the drainage and convert the drive — usually asphalt on the steep parts and chip seal or asphalt on the rest.

Shared roads

Neighbors on a private easement who want to stop patching the same washouts. We reshape the road, add crossings and surface it, and split the cost by lot. Private road paving in Placitas.

Older asphalt

Drives paved years ago that have faded, cracked or broken at the downhill edge — good candidates for edge repair plus an overlay or sealcoating.

Arroyo crossings

Culverts that clog, crossings that wash out, and new crossings for new driveways. Culverts and crossings.

Getting trucks up here

Placitas roads can be narrow and steep, and hot-mix has to arrive hot. We plan truck access and timing at the estimate, and schedule paving on warm days in the main season.

Photos of the drive from the road and from the house, plus where water crosses during a storm, help us give a ballpark fast. Text them to (505) 337-3833.
