A historic village off NM-14
Cerrillos is a small historic mining village just off the Turquoise Trail north of Madrid, near the Galisteo Creek. Streets are dirt, lots range from in-village parcels to larger rural properties in the hills around it, and the setting is a big part of why people live there.
What we usually do here
- Chip seal or millings on driveways and private lanes — dust control without a blacktop look.
- Asphalt on steep sections where gravel keeps washing out.
- Grading and crowning of dirt drives so water runs off instead of down the middle.
- Culverts and crossings where drives cross drainage on the way to the creek. See culverts and crossings.
Keeping it in character
For many Cerrillos owners, the goal isn't a paved look — it's a drive that doesn't wash out and doesn't fill the house with dust. Chip seal's stone surface and natural rock at edges and outlets fit the setting.
