Gateway to Placitas
Bernalillo sits where NM-165 heads up to Placitas and US-550 heads northwest — the Sandoval County seat, with old neighborhoods along Camino del Pueblo, farmland near the river, and businesses along the highways. It's also a very different place to pave than Placitas: flat, close to the river, with siltier soil that holds water.
Valley-floor paving
On flat ground, water doesn't leave unless the surface tells it to. Siltier soil softens when wet. So the keys in Bernalillo are:
- Remove soft soil under the driveway or lot.
- Build a thicker compacted base where needed.
- Create slope — a crown or cross-slope even on "flat" lots.
- Give water an outlet — a swale, culvert or low area away from the pavement.

Questions & answers
Do you serve all of Bernalillo?
Yes, plus the surrounding Sandoval County area.
Why does my driveway stay soft after rain?
Usually soft, silty soil under a thin base on flat ground. The fix is removing the soft soil, adding base and regrading.
Do I need a permit?
Work on your property usually doesn't. Work at a town street, county road or state highway may. We'll check.
